Italian producer of mineral water Acqua Minerale San Benedetto announced on Tuesday February 10th, that it has acquired Fonte Cutolo Rionero in Volture to strengthen its presence in Italian and European markets.
Fonte Cutolo Rionero in Volture is a small Italian producer of natural sparkling water, based in Atella, near Potenza (Southern Italy), where San Benedetto bought a second plant two years ago, not far away from the Pollino National Park.
San Benedetto has also got another four manufacturing facilities in Italy and four in Europe (Spain, Hungary and Poland). The bottled water producer signed a joint venture in Mexico with Doctor Pepper Snapple Group and a partnership in The Dominican Republic with Companie Financiere de St. Pierre. In 2013 it increased its production capacity to 18.2m bottles per day, San Benedetto says.
The company owns four Italian brands (Acqua Minerale San Benedetto, Primavera – Acque d’Italia, Acqua di Nepi and Guizza) and it is the exclusive distributor for the British brand Schweppes in Italy.
Acqua Minerale San Benedetto was founded in 1956 in Scorzè, near Venice (Northern Italy), where it has its headquarters. Besides mineral water, it also produces and sells nine other types of beverages, these make up 55 per cent of the total turnover. These are: San Benedetto Ice Formula Zero, Aquavitamin, Thè San Benedetto, Baby Drink, Bibite gassate San Benedetto, Ben’s, Batìk Succoso, Oasis, Tropico and Energade.
Enrico Zoppas, Chairman of the company, said in a statement:
“Acquiring Fonte Cutolo Rionero in Vulture is a great opportunity and this acquisition represents a challenge for our company and for Italy. Our goal is to consolidate the leadership of San Bendetto in an increasingly difficult market”.
In 2013 San Benedetto revenues were €681m, according to a company statement. Exports accounted for only seven per cent of total revenues.
