Ermetris, a company based in the Italian town of Gorizia, specialising in innovative solutions for the railway sector, has recently secured a deal with US giant National Railroad Passenger Corporation Amtrak that consists of supplying bespoke “phone devises” with external push-buttons to be installed on 150 trains.
The new device has been developed to ensure communication at all times between the driver and the passengers and between the train driver and the railway staff.
This is not the first time that Ermetris has worked in partnership with an American based company. Initially, Ermetris entered the US market as a supplier to a general contractor, however, this is the first time that Ermetris has entered the US market directly.
The first batch of devices has already been delivered. Within the next two years Ermetris will supply the remainder to the American railway giant. Amtrak operates on 33,800 km of railway line connecting 500 locations in 46 states.
Claudio Borrello, CEO and founder of Ermetris, said:
“It’s a dedicated railway phone devise that is fully integrated into the driver’s panel and it works without the help of other devices. It is used mainly to make passenger and safety announcements, to stay in constant contact with the other train driver who sits at the other end of the train as well as to communicate with the conductor. It is a bespoke phone device that will be installed on 30 trains on the Boston – New York high-speed line and on 120 trains operating in California. The total value of the deal is €500,000.00.“
